The cliffs along the beautiful causeway coast in Northern Ireland, can come across as very touristy and busy. Don't be fooled. The main busy areas are the Giants Causeway itself, Dunluce Castle and Ballintoy Harbour.
There are countless other locations along this 200 mile stretch of the country. For example, just 1 mile down the road from Dunluce Castle, you can park the car, walk across a field and get a far superior view of the castle ruins balancing on the cliff edge. This is a great backdrop for your photos, and it's free.
The Giants Causeway is one of the most spectacular sites along the coast. For this reason, there can be a lot of tourists, especially in warmer months. There are paths and tracks all along the coast here, and just a short walk from the Giants Causeway carpark, you can be a world away from the hussle-and-bussle of tourists.
If you know where to go, your adventure session can be close to these touristy sites, at peek times, but still see very few people. The wind coming from the north atlantic ocean and rising up the cliff face can make for some dramatic photos. For the girl, I'd suggest wearing a long, flowing dress that will catch the wind and create movement and drama in your images. They will look epic!!! For the guys, smart and casual is a great way to go. Also, both of you wear comfy footwear. No heels girls (or bring them with you and change into them).
Any time of the year can be cold in Northern Ireland, especially along the cliff-tops, so always bring a jacket with you. I can carry a small backpack with your jacket, snacks and things in it.
A causeway adventure session does not have to be an engagement or a couples shoot. I've photographed couples who have had a destination wedding, came back home, put their wedding dress and suit back on, then spent the afternoon and evening with me along the causeway coast getting more epic images to add to their wedding memories.
I've even photographed family portraits along the coast, as well as a few pet portraits.
